Is this the most stressful part of building an engine? 🏎️⚙️
When assembling a cylinder head, you have to compress the incredibly stiff valve springs to install the valve keepers (also known as locks). These two tiny, half-moon shaped pieces of metal are the only things holding back hundreds of pounds of spring pressure, keeping the valve firmly attached to the retainer.
If the spring compressor tool slips while your fingers are in there, you are in for a world of hurt. Worse yet, if you drop one of those tiny keepers, it can bounce right down an oil passage into the bottom of the engine block!
