Why iPhone 18 is Soooo Expensive Even After ‘Make in India’ #shorts

Made in India, Yet Costlier: iPhone 18 Prices Upset Indian Buyers
Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro series has triggered a fresh pricing debate in India, with consumers questioning why locally manufactured devices remain substantially more expensive than in several overseas markets.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,64,900 in India, while the Pro Max begins at ₹1,79,900. Comparisons circulating online suggest that the same devices can be purchased considerably cheaper in markets such as Dubai and the United States. Some reports estimate that Indian buyers could save around ₹30,000 in Dubai even after considering basic travel and visa expenses.
The criticism has grown because Apple is now manufacturing its latest Pro iPhones in India under the country’s expanding electronics-production ecosystem. Many consumers assumed that domestic production would immediately produce a major reduction in retail prices.
However, “Made in India” does not necessarily mean every component is locally produced. High-value parts—including processors, displays, memory and camera systems—may still come through global supply chains. India’s 18 percent GST, currency movements, distribution expenses, retail margins and Apple’s premium global pricing strategy also influence the final price.
A worldwide shortage of memory chips has added further cost pressure across the electronics industry. Rising demand from artificial-intelligence data centres has reportedly increased component prices, affecting smartphones, computers and other devices.
The high prices have caused frustration, but the launch has still attracted buyers, with queues reported outside Apple stores in major Indian cities. The contrasting reactions underline India’s unusual position: consumers want internationally competitive prices, even as the country becomes an increasingly important manufacturing and export centre for Apple.
Local production may deliver greater savings gradually as India develops deeper component manufacturing and a stronger domestic supplier network.
