Mexican cartel leader killed in military operation, violence erupts across country

We are getting the latest information this Sunday as the Mexican army reportedly kills the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. According to the Mexican government, Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho," was wounded during a capture operation and died while being flown to Mexico City. The U.S. State Department had previously offered a $15 million reward for information that led to the arrest of El Mencho. Claudia Sheinbaum, the current Mexican President, has been under pressure to show results against drug trafficking since President Donald Trump took office last year. In a post on social media, US State Department Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau described Oseguera’s death as a “great development for Mexico, the US, Latin America, and the world.”
