Life in the desert means water isn't always easy to find. Camels have evolved remarkable adaptations that allow them to survive long periods without drinking and quickly recover once water becomes available.

After becoming severely dehydrated, a thirsty camel can drink up to 30 gallons (about 113 liters) of water in as little as 13 minutes. Their bodies are specially adapted to handle this rapid intake without the dangerous effects that many other mammals would experience.

Camels don't store water in their humps, despite the popular myth. Their humps actually store fat, while the rest of the body is adapted to conserve water and tolerate dehydration far better than most animals.

This extraordinary ability helps camels thrive in some of the harshest environments on Earth, where every opportunity to drink can make the difference between life and death. 🐫💧
