Rebuilding a cylinder head requires an insane amount of precision, and these tiny parts are a mechanic's worst nightmare! 🛠️
In this video, we are watching the installation of valve keepers (also known as collets) on a rusty engine head. The mechanic compresses the heavy valve spring and carefully places the two small, wedge-shaped keepers into the machined groove on the valve stem. Because the inside of the retainer is tapered, releasing the spring tension wedges the keepers tightly against the stem, locking the whole assembly together. If you accidentally drop one of these into an oil return hole during reassembly, it can require tearing the entire engine back apart to retrieve it!
