During firing practice, a young lieutenant lets his pistol drift off target. Gunnery Sergeant Elmo "Gunny" Haney doesn't hesitate. He takes the weapon straight out of his hands and tears into him about basic gun safety, rank be damned.
When the lieutenant looks to Captain Andrew "Ack-Ack" Haldane for backup, Haldane simply says: "He's right."
Elmo Haney was one of the "old breed" Marines who had served since World War I, and whose hard-earned habits kept younger men alive.
