केरल के इकलौते लेक टेंपल 'अनंतपुरा मंदिर' की झील के बीचों-बीच भगवान विष्णु विराजमान हैं। माना जाता है कि इस झील के नीचे एक रहस्यमयी गुफा है जो सीधे दुनिया के सबसे अमीर श्री पद्मनाभस्वामी मंदिर तक जाती है। इस गुप्त रास्ते का रक्षक 'बबिया' नाम का एक मगरमच्छ था!
इंटरनेट पर अक्सर दावा किया जाता है कि बबिया पूरी तरह 'शाकाहारी' था और सिर्फ मंदिर का प्रसाद खाता था, लेकिन 1997 की एक डॉक्युमेंट्री में उसे स्वाभाविक रूप से शिकार करते देखा गया था। हालांकि, यह सच है कि उसने अपने लगभग 75 साल के जीवन में कभी किसी इंसान पर हमला नहीं किया।
असली चमत्कार 2022 में बबिया की मौत के बाद हुआ! बिना किसी नदी या स्रोत के, इस बंद झील में अचानक एक नया मगरमच्छ आ गया। स्थानीय लोगों का दृढ़ विश्वास है कि एक समय में यहाँ सिर्फ एक ही मगरमच्छ रहता है और पुराने रक्षक के जाने के बाद नया रक्षक खुद-ब-खुद आ जाता है।

Is this temple crocodile a vegetarian? Not quite!
If you search for "Kerala's only lake temple" on Google, the Ananthapura Temple appears. Situated in the middle of a lake, this temple—dating back thousands of years—houses Lord Vishnu resting under the canopy of Sheshnag. There is also a mysterious cave beneath the lake that leads directly to the world's wealthiest temple, the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. And the guardian of this passage was a crocodile named 'Babiya'!
Claims circulate on social media that Babiya was a strict vegetarian, consuming only the temple's prasad (rice and jaggery). However, a 1997 documentary clearly shows him hunting and eating a live chicken—which is only natural; after all, he was a crocodile! Nevertheless, Babiya was incredibly docile and never attacked anyone.
Babiya passed away in 2022 at the age of approximately 75. But the real miracle occurred afterward—a new crocodile suddenly appeared in the temple lake! What makes this astonishing is that there are no nearby rivers or lakes from which a new crocodile could have arrived. Locals believe that only one crocodile inhabits the lake at a time, and upon its death, a new guardian arrives on its own.
