Open Bypass rings are tricky

Open bypass rings are trickier than they look.

If you cut them at the bottom they fall apart into two pieces. If you stretch it at the top the alignment is lost. So before I make any cuts or bends I like to temporarily connect them at the top so the ring acts as one piece instead of two. Then once all my soldering and cleanup is done I remove the spacer.

Sometimes the weirdest looking step is the most important one.
