The Legal way to Avoid Chalan | #LLAShorts 1611
Labour Law Advisor
That White Line Can Cost You.
Most people learn how to drive. Very few learn what the markings on the road actually mean.
A surprising number of traffic challans are issued not because of overspeeding or reckless driving, but because drivers unknowingly violate road markings that are legally enforceable. Crossing a stop line at a red signal, entering a yellow box junction when the exit is blocked, changing lanes across a solid white line, or crossing double solid lines can all attract penalties even when there is no traffic police officer standing nearby.
These markings are not just paint on the road. They are traffic control devices designed to improve safety, regulate vehicle movement, reduce congestion, and protect pedestrians. Zebra crossings give priority to pedestrians. Stop lines define the legal point where vehicles must halt. Rumble strips warn drivers to slow down before sharp curves or speed breakers. Yellow box junctions help keep intersections clear during heavy traffic. Solid and broken lane markings determine when overtaking, turning, or lane changes are allowed.
The problem is that most drivers are tested on these concepts once while obtaining a licence and then never revisit them again. As a result, many people unknowingly break rules every day and end up paying fines that could have been avoided with basic awareness.
Knowing road signs and markings is just as important as knowing how to operate a vehicle. A few minutes of awareness can save money, prevent accidents, and make roads safer for everyone.
