The Suspension Broke On My Trailer- Let’s Fix It!
HAUS PLANS ®️
Who can tell me what’s wrong with this picture?
Yep, this trailer’s got a broken leaf spring.
I depend on this trailer for work- let’s get it in the garage and see if we can fix it.
The first thing I did was get up off the ground and put a jack stand under all four corners.
Then I took both wheels off.
At first I was thinking just to replace the leaf springs, but this trailer is over 25 years old and the spindles are scored from where the bearings have spun; so, I’m going to replace the axle too.
Next, I needed to remove the four bolts that hold the suspension to the frame, but they would not budge. I was surprised- even with this ½” impact.
Finally, I got out my grinder and used it to cut the heads right off the bolts.
Now I had another problem- the bolts wouldn’t pound through even with a hammer and a punch.
So, I grabbed my SDS hammer drill with a ¼” bit and turned it to jackhammer- it forced the bolts right though and worked awesome.
Let me know if you’re looking for a lightly used axle and suspension- I’ll give you a really good deal.
We’re gonna completely rebuild this trailer suspension- make sure to like and subscribe so you don’t miss it. @hausplans
