What looks like ordinary sand is actually tens of thousands of live baby crabs! 😳🦀
These tiny creatures are Chinese mitten crab larvae, and farmers release them into specially prepared rice paddies.
Over several months, the nearly invisible larvae grow into small juvenile crabs. After spending the winter in ponds, they are returned to the rice fields, where they continue growing into full-sized Chinese mitten crabs.
But the most fascinating part is the farming system itself. 🌾🦀
