Worn Out Flywheel Teeth ⚙️
Curious as Hell
In this video, a starter motor struggles to engage with a worn flywheel ring gear. This mechanical battle happens because the starter is essentially a high-speed electric muscle meant to shove its small pinion gear into the massive teeth of the engine’s flywheel. Over thousands of starts, these metal teeth take a brutal beating. If they aren't perfectly aligned, they slam into each other like two saws clashing together instead of interlocking like a zipper. This constant friction rounds off the sharp edges until they are too smooth to grab onto anything.
Without those crisp edges, the starter pinion just skids across the surface of the flywheel. This creates that painful, high-pitched grinding sound which is actually the sound of metal being shaved off in real time. You can see the dark metallic dust piling up as the gears fail to find a grip. Since the starter cannot lock in to spin the engine, the car remains dead in its tracks while the motor spins uselessly in circles.
