Applause breaks out as Mamdani mentions Palestinians in New York during inaugural speech

During his inaugural speech, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke about the diverse communities that contribute to the city’s identity. The crowd erupted in applause when he mentioned Palestinians in Bay Ridge.
“They will be Palestinian New Yorkers in Bay Ridge, who will no longer have to contend with a politics that speaks of universalism and then makes them the exception,” Mamdani said.
